Estimates from Hyperliquid's published formulas for one position. Very large positions on markets with margin tiers, cross accounts holding several positions, and funding rates that change each hour will differ. Hyperliquid doesn't publish how staking and referral discounts combine; this applies one after the other.

How Hyperliquid calculates the liquidation price

Hyperliquid publishes the formula it uses (see also the maximum leverage and margin tiers of every perp):

liq_price = price − side × margin_available ÷ position_size ÷ (1 − l × side)

side is 1 for a long and −1 for a short. l is one over the maintenance leverage, and the maintenance margin is half the initial margin at the market's maximum leverage, so on a market that allows 40x, l is 1/80 and the maintenance margin is 1.25% of the position's value. margin_available is the position's isolated margin, or the whole account value in cross margin, minus that maintenance margin.

An example: a $1,000 long at 10x on a 40x market, entered at $100. The margin is $100 and the maintenance margin $12.50, so the position is liquidated at $91.14, a drop of 8.9%. The same trade at 20x is liquidated at $96.20.

Liquidation starts when account equity falls below the maintenance margin. If equity falls below two-thirds of it before the book can absorb the position, Hyperliquid's liquidator vault takes it over, and the maintenance margin is not returned.

Fees

Hyperliquid charges fees on the position's value at every fill: 0.045% to take liquidity and 0.015% to make it at the base tier, falling to 0.024% and 0% above $7B of 14-day volume. Staking HYPE takes 5% to 40% off, a referral code 4% off your first $25M, and the biggest makers earn a rebate of up to 0.003%. A front end can add a builder fee of up to 0.1% on perps. The full schedule is in the Hyperliquid fees guide.

Funding

Funding is paid every hour on position size × oracle price × the hourly rate. Longs pay shorts when the rate is positive; shorts pay longs when it is negative. The calculator fills in each market's current rate, and rates move every hour, so a longer hold is an estimate. Every market's rate, live, is on the Hyperliquid funding rates page. How far rates moved over a month, market by market, is in the September 2026 Hyperliquid funding report. For how much open interest each market carries, see Hyperliquid open interest by coin.

What it leaves out

Margin tiers: on some markets very large positions carry a higher maintenance margin, which moves liquidation closer. Several positions in one cross account, which share the same account value. And slippage, plus the gap between the mark price that triggers liquidation and the oracle price that sets funding.

Questions

How do I calculate my liquidation price on Hyperliquid?

Use Hyperliquid's own formula: liquidation price = price − side × margin available ÷ position size ÷ (1 − l × side), where side is 1 for a long and −1 for a short, l is one over twice the market's maximum leverage, and margin available is your margin minus the maintenance margin. The calculator above does it for any market, in isolated or cross margin.

What is the maintenance margin on Hyperliquid?

Half of the initial margin at the market's maximum leverage. On a market that allows 40x it is 1.25% of the position's value; on a 10x market it is 5%.

Does higher leverage move my liquidation price closer?

In isolated margin, yes: more leverage puts less margin behind the same position, so a smaller move liquidates it. In cross margin the whole account value backs the position, so what matters is the position's size against your account.

How much does a Hyperliquid trade cost in fees?

At the base tier, 0.045% of the position's value to take liquidity and 0.015% to make it, charged when you open and again when you close. A $10,000 position opened and closed with market orders pays about $9 in Hyperliquid fees.

How is funding calculated on Hyperliquid?

Every hour you pay or receive position size × oracle price × the hourly funding rate. At the baseline rate of 0.00125% an hour, a $10,000 long pays $0.125 an hour, about $3 a day. Longs pay when the rate is positive and receive when it is negative.

Is the calculator exact?

It uses Hyperliquid's published formulas with live market data, so it matches the exchange for a single position of normal size. Very large positions on markets with margin tiers, cross accounts holding several positions, and funding rates that change hour to hour will all differ.

Do I need an account or a wallet to use it?

No. The calculator runs in your browser, needs no sign-in and saves nothing.
